Portrait Commissions
Rory Gevis is a New York–based painter known for her soulful, narrative-driven portraiture. Her work captures more than likeness—it holds feeling. A father in his favorite chair. A child cradling the family dog. A beloved home remembered through its wallpaper.
Each painting is layered with intimacy, memory, and the quiet glamour of a life well-lived.
Before painting full-time, Rory spent years shaping visual worlds—as Style Director at W and House & Garden, and later as Executive Creative at MAC Cosmetics. That background in fashion, interiors, and beauty informs her portraiture: the way a hand rests on fabric, how a room can speak volumes, how color tells story.
Working from photographs and conversations, Rory builds each painting from the inside out—often incorporating personal elements like textiles, heirlooms, and architectural details.
The result is a portrait that feels timeless, deeply personal, and entirely one of a kind.

-
Send me a description of what you’re looking for, including:
How many people and/or pets will be in the portrait
Whether you’d like a full length, ¾, or close-up composition
Inspirational images (people, pets, favorite chairs, interiors, fabrics, or meaningful objects)
Approximate size of the work
Timing—whether this is for a special occasion or a flexible project
I love to start with as much detail as possible by email—it helps create a clear foundation for your portrait.
-
Once we establish a shared vision, I’ll provide a detailed quote with the commission scope and timeline.
A 50% deposit is required to begin the work.
-
As I work, I’ll check in with images of the painting in progress. This ensures the portrait is evolving in line with your expectations. Adjustments can be made at this stage.
If changes beyond the original composition are requested.
(For example, a new background or repositioning figures), additional costs will be discussed. -
When the painting is complete, you’ll receive photographs of the final piece. Once you confirm your satisfaction, the remaining balance is due.
-
Your portrait will be carefully packed and shipped. You’ll receive full tracking details. Shipping and handling costs will be included in your initial quote.
